Mission Statement

To unseat corrupt politicians, elect ethical leaders, counter disinformation campaigns and advocate for government reform.

About us

Disrupt the Corrupt, founded by Ammar Campa-Najjar, is a people-powered organization that aims to disrupt the cycle of government corruption and restore political power to the people.

capital dome

For too long, corrupt politicians have benefited from a broken political system without accountability or the implementation of real, preventative reforms. It’s time to finally break the cycle of corruption instead of being broken by it. Together, we the people, have the power to intervene and Disrupt the Corrupt.

Unseat Corrupt Politicians:

Defeating elected officials who've enriched themselves, betrayed the public trust, and put their narrow interests above the American people and democracy itself. Like Marjorie Taylor Green and Josh Hawley promoting Trump’s Big Lie, sedition, and the January 6th insurrection; Ted Cruz selling his votes to the highest corporate bidder; Mitch McConnell using dark money to undermine voting rights; and American political figures colluding with foreign countries to undermine US elections.

Elect Ethical Leaders:

Electing bold leaders who reject corporate PAC money, support campaign finance reform (H.R.1/ S.1 The For the People Act), champion diversity as integral to our democracy, and won’t bow to the powers and pressures of a corrupt system. To receive an endorsement, candidates must fill out and submit Disrupt the Corrupt Questionnaire Form.

Counter Disinformation Campaigns:

Combatting targeted disinformation campaigns and Q-Anon conspiracy theories meant to confuse the public, sow social division, breed Domestic Violent Extremism, and undermine America’s election system as was fatally attempted on January 6th, 2021.

Advocate for Government Reform:

A core operating principle of Disrupt the Corrupt is the belief that the problem in politics isn’t just a few bad apples — it’s the barrel that’s rotten. The system itself breeds corruption, and unless we deal with these deep institutional problems with how elections are funded and conducted, a new wave of corrupt politicians will continue to win and maintain power.

That’s why it’s not enough to go after corrupt politicians. Our work will focus on advocating for big, structural change that decentralizes power away from the well-off and well-connected in Washington and places it back into the hands of everyday American citizens.

About Ammar

Headshot of Ammar

The first Latino-Arab American to run for Congress, Ammar Campa-Najjar represents a new generation of leadership. He is a former Obama official, writer, government reform champion, and founder of Disrupt the Corrupt. Raising over $10 million from over 500,000 unique donations with an average of $24, Ammar ran on a bold agenda championing government reform and getting Big Money out of politics. He earned a coveted position on the DCCC’s Red to Blue program and was endorsed by a broad coalition that included End Citizens United, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Congresswoman Katie Porter, President Joe Biden, and former President Barack Obama. In a district where Trump won by 15 percent, Ammar was the first Democrat to come within striking distance in 40 years, garnering 48.3 percent of the vote.

In 2018, Ammar ran against embattled Congressman Duncan Hunter, one of the most corrupt congressmen in history, who was infamously convicted for the illegal misuse of campaign funds and throwing his wife under the bus. As highlighted by Chuck Todd and John Oliver, Ammar was the target of one of the most xenophobic and negative attacks in modern American history-- being accused of infiltrating Congress and falsely tied to terrorism, which was given “Four Pinocchios” by the Washington Post and a "Pants on Fire" rating by Politifact. In 2020, he ran against the wealthiest member of Congress, Darrell Issa, who was one of the seven California Republicans that voted to overturn the 2020 Presidential Election Results. During that election, Donald Trump produced a negative ad in which he attacked Ammar’s Palestinian heritage. Despite the attack ads, and Darrell Issa spending $20 million of his personal fortune to promote them, Ammar came within striking distance once again — securing split-ticket voters, outperforming Joe Biden in the district, and helping down-ballot candidates win their elections.

Today, Ammar serves on the Race and Identity Profiling Advisory Board for the state of California. He continues to serve as an advisor and strategist to Red to Blue candidates hoping to flip Congressional seats in the upcoming 2022 midterms, and as a mentor helping diverse candidates navigate through the obstacles of a political system that wasn't built with them in mind.

Introduced by Democrats, the For the People Act is a bill in the United States Congress to expand voting rights, change campaign finance laws to reduce the influence of money in politics, limit partisan gerrymandering, and create new ethics rules for federal officeholders.

Pass legislation to create a constitutional amendment that would overturn the Citizens United decision, declare that corporations are not people, and give Congress greater authority to regulate our campaign finance system.

Introduce voluntary public financing for campaigns, matching small donations at a 6:1 ratio. The 6:1 ratio matching system would impact donations up to $200 to congressional and presidential candidates who reject high-dollar contributions. Fines incurred from corporations who broke the law would be used to fund the system.

Support legislation that stipulates that no one shall be issued a federal lobbyist registration who has ever been elected a member of the United States House of Representatives or the United States Senate. Former Members of Congress shall not be allowed to leverage their proximity to power for personal economic gain.

Members of Congress shall not receive pay during government shutdowns. Wealthier members will receive a heavier, more punitive financial penalty. Upon reopening the government, members will not receive retroactive pay for the time the government was closed, while hardworking men and women were furloughed from the employment they count on to survive.

Any current or former member of the United States House of Representatives (i.e. Congressman Duncan D. Hunter) or the United States Senate who is convinced of a federal crime shall forfeit his or her pension. Hard-earned American taxpayer dollars shall not go into the pockets of politicians who have engaged in unethical and criminal behavior. (Inspired by Congressman Josh Harder’s 2020 bill).

Inspired by the recent House Republican Rules established in 2018 following Congressman Duncan D. Hunter indictment, if a member of the House and Senate is indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed, that member must submit his or her resignation from any such committees to the House promptly. Additionally, if a candidate or Member of Congress recently failed an FBI background check, he or she shall be disqualified from being appointed to any committee assignments until the person in question can pass an FBI background check. This measure would prevent compromised Members of Congress from being blackmailed or bribed into divulging sensitive information that may threaten national security.

Support a resolution requiring Members of Congress to read each bill before voting to pass them into law.

Requirement for candidates to reside in the Congressional district they're running to represent.
